20 persons and one organization have been awarded ‘Akushe Medal-2020’ to mark International Mother Language Day. Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina has called for respect and dignity of bengali, even if it is necessary to use other languages in need of work. On Thursday (February 20th), the award e-awards were handed over to the winners of the prestigious ceremony at the Osmani Memorial Inn. The Prime Minister also said that Bangladesh has gained independence from the language movement of Ekushey. So Akush is a symbol of our self-esteem.
The Prime Minister said that if Awami League had not come to power, the mother tongue would not have been so respected in the bengali world.
He added that the country has already made a lot of work. This progress will continue and the country will be made a better prosperous country by listening to Bangladesh so that no one in the world can ignore it, respect Bangladesh.
The Prime Minister said that the progress will continue, capturing the history of the country, the language movement and the spirit of liberation.
On February 5, the Ministry of Culture of the government announced 20 persons and one organization as winners of the 2020 Ekushey Medal in recognition of their special contribution to their respective fields.
The winners of the Ekushey Medal 2020 are: The Language Movement’s Leader Aminul Islam King (Post-Death), Art (Song) Begum Dalia Nowshin, Shankar Ray and Mita Haque, Art (Nitya) Mo. Ghulam Mustafa Khan, M M Mohsin in Art (Akar) Art (Charukla) Professor Artist Dr. Fareeda Zaman, The Liberation War, Haji Akter Sardar (Post-Death), Abdul Jabbar (Post-Death), Andtheer Dr. A. M. Mesbahul Haque (Child Doctor) (After Death), Zafar Wajed (Ali Wajed Zafar), Dr. Jahangir Alam in Research, Hafez Allama Syed Mohammad Shayfur Rahman, Professor of Education Dr. Radiation Prasad Barua, Professor of Economics Dr. Shamsul Alam, Sufi in Social Service Mohammad Mizanur Rahman, Dr. Noorun Nabi in Language and Literature, Syed Sikdar Aminul Haque (Post-Death) and Begum Najmun Nessa Piari and Professor of Medicine Dr. Sayeba Akhtar. Bangladesh Fisheries Research Institute has also been nominated for the Ekushey Medal in ‘Research’.
Senior government officials including cabinet members, Prime Minister’s Advisors, Judges, MPs, heads of various forces and organizations, diplomats and other officials attended the ceremony.
